ETIQUETTE

To some, etiquette is a fancy word that applies to formal dinners and concerns itself with minuscule details such as how to hold a wine glass. It is often regarded as something you turn on and off for special occasions. But this is not so.

Etiquette comprises the rules governing socially acceptable behaviour according to the norms of a society, social class or group. Etiquette prescribes and restricts the ways in which people interact with each other and how they show respect for others.

An understanding and application of good etiquette is key to the graceful management of all our daily interactions. It allows us to keep our self-esteem in tact and can enhance our reputation. One of the goals of etiquette is to put those around us at ease. This may seem old-fashioned, but violations of etiquette can cause embarrassment to yourself, hurt to others and lead to misunderstandings in both social and business settings.

Image Matters Ltd. has created social etiquette modules based on the behavioural norms of our society. We have also considered the importance of etiquette in the workplace through the creation of corporate etiquette workshops and international etiquette for those exposed to other cultures and social norms different from than their own.

We plan to create work shops for etiquette for young children and teens and special holiday camps will make learning good manners an enjoyable experience.
